Promega brings organically maintained bee colonies to its site to support regional biodiversity

Walldorf, Germany. (July 2, 2026)

Promega GmbH is launching an ecological project on its site in Walldorf: two bee colonies now have a new home in two sustainably built beehives. In close collaboration with Stadtbienen gGmbH, Promega is expanding its ecological commitment at the site while also creating a tangible opportunity to raise visibility for environmental awareness and biodiversity. The Promega site offers ideal conditions for this project. Beforehand, an experienced beekeeper from Stadtbienen thoroughly assessed the location: thanks to the existing wildflower meadow and the traditional orchard trees, the site provides a rich and diverse food supply for all kinds of insects.

"Sustainability isn't a marketing statement for us — it is a business responsibility," explains Tanja Lopez, ESG Manager at Promega GmbH. "Insect populations are declining dramatically worldwide. With this project, we want to make a concrete, responsibly integrated contribution to strengthening biodiversity. It is important to us that we don't see honeybee keeping as a standalone measure, but as part of a diverse habitat that also takes wild bees and other pollinators into account. It also underscores our commitment to ecological responsibility as a company."
