A Multi-Assay Strategy for Monitoring Long-Term Health in a 3D Liver Model
The liver is crucial for metabolizing foreign substances, and drug-induced liver damage is a significant cause for the removal of drugs from the market. Traditional 2D models of human liver cells rapidly lose their viability and functionality within 1-2 weeks, limiting the feasibility of long-term drug exposure studies. Consequently, the development of innovative human liver cell culture models that facilitate long-term studies is needed for drug toxicity testing. Furthermore, adopting a comprehensive monitoring strategy that assesses the health and function of liver cell culture models over an extended period is crucial for generating data that accurately represents the biological response to the treatment applied.
In this webinar, Dr. Darren Heywood will introduce Promega's 3D cell-based assays and how a multi-assay approach can help generate more biologically relevant data. Dr. Jonathan Sheard and Dr. Johanna Lampe, from UPM Biomedicals, will expand on this by describing their 3D cell-based assay multiplexing strategy for monitoring the long-term health and functionality of a HepaRG 3D Liver model cultured in GrowDex® over a four-week time course.
